Oh, the Places You'll Go - Emerging Technology in Kindergarten
From this session, what information made a lasting impression?
The Digital Science Lab made a lasting impression since the presenter shared activities and simulations that could be found online for FREE. There are several great websites that should be looked at by science teachers on the elementary and middle school levels.
Social bookmarking showed how to use Del.icio.us to bookmark sites online.
How will you use this information as a teacher? (Productivity tool? Instructional tool?)
I'll continue to use Del.icio.us to bookmark sites online to share with other professionals. See http://del.icio.us/aboehman
The science sites can be used to demonstrate simulations in class. Great alternative if a teacher does not have the materials needed to create the simulation in class herself.
How will your students use this information? (What kind of learning activity?)
Student can use the science websites to view simulations, demonstrations, and science experiements (where they can change the variable in the experiment to see how the results change.)
Students or teachers can also use delicious to post exemplary websites online and access them easily.
What kind of product will be produced from this type of educational handheld activity?
A hotlist of grade-level websites can be maintained for students and teachers.
Results from a science experiment or demonstration can be gathered and used for scientific research in class.
These are not handheld activities, but both are worthwhile to do in the classroom.
How will you assess the student-created product?
Using observations recorded from the science simulations.
Del.icio.us is not a site that lends itself to assessment, unless a teacher assesses the number of websites a student gathers around a specific topic that pertains to the class. (For example, a business teacher may ask a student to maintain a delicious site with a certain number of websites that relates to business or the economy.)
What roadblocks are currently in place that would prevent you from doing this in your classroom?
Slow Internet acess
No laptop or computer or projector to project the website
Long waiting period to get into a computer lab at school
Conference Information
